The COVID-19 test is still critical as the process is easy, quick and significantly reduces the spread of COVID. Consider current facts such as breakthrough COVID-19 cases being reported on the rise and variants such as the Delta variant being more contagious.
With a variety of COVID-19 tests on the market, understanding the difference and importance of COVID-19 testing options is necessary. All the tests are diagnostic tests which determine when someone has an active COVID-19 infection. These tests often fall into two categories: antigen tests and molecular and PCR tests:
Antigen tests are taken with a nasal swab and detect viral proteins that are part of the coronavirus.
Molecular and PCR: not all molecular tests use PCR (which stands for polymerase chain reaction) but it has become a mainstay of COVID-19 testing. The molecular tests detect genetic material of the virus.
